RECOGNIZING AND UNDERSTANDING COERCIVE CONTROL - How Promoting Awareness of Spiritual and Cultic Abuse Can Build a Healthier Foundation for the Wider Community

In the spirit of if you see something, say something, Gerette’s approach to community education about coercive control encourages participants to recognize the patterns of how cultic, religious and power over abuse can manifest in institutions and groups within every community. Through her expertise in cult recovery and education, she is able to offer practical recommendations for how to identify and respond to undue influence for best possible results. This presentation will speak to those who have been victimized by coercive influence, community leaders and interested citizens. Increased awareness and understanding of the complex dynamics involved are key components to building resilience in communities large and small.

Gerette Buglion, B.A. Elementary Education and Special Education, earned her ‘Master's Degree’ in cult awareness education from the school of life. This training occurred during her eighteen-year odyssey with Doug (Fictitious name. Real person) who was the leader of the ‘Center for Transformational Learning’ (fictitious name for a real group, also simply CTL).
