The Mind’s ‘Mine’ -
Reckoning with the Craft of Writing
With Gerette Buglion and Zack Bonnie
A six week course beginning Oct 11, 2023
This 6 week course supports writers in learning the craft of writing. We will begin with your raw material (first draft) and bring it through a refining process: sifting through the thoughts, images and words that are in your mind’s ‘mine’. By giving them the attention necessary for development, your words become accessible and constructive for you and for your reader. This ‘mining’ process encourages your individuality (your life experiences, your trauma, your creativity) to mark its territory so that your written work can resonate with, educate, and inspire readers. Through an interactive, relational process of discovery, a quantum leap can occur where your characters, setting and plot line can come to life - and your unique voice can be accessed.
The course will include instruction, writing time, partner work, and ample reflection time to identify essential questions each piece begs to open up. The craft of writing takes fortitude and perseverance. And it takes action: sitting and writing and rereading. To bring our writing to its fruition, we have to do this. Participants will be inspired to spend time both in and outside of the class to identify and act on the hard choices that must be made, for a piece to achieve fulfillment. The final class will be a celebration and sharing of accomplishments.
